Hockey Injuries
Hockey is an extremely physical and dangerous sport combining high speeds, hard contact with the ice, the boards, and the plexiglass. A Hockey players’ daily concerns involve cuts and contusions as well as muscular injuries. Movement is comprised of constant twisting and turning, and stresses to the upper thigh, abdomen, and pelvic areas.

Hockey requires a tremendous amount of balance and strength leading to potential injuries in the groin, abdominal, and back. These players are made more vulnerable to the common injuries of almost any sport: shoulder dislocations, and knee injuries involving the ACL, MCL, and torn cartilage.

Add to this a puck flying at you at a hundred miles an hour. Many contusions and broken bones come from getting hit with the puck, especially in the foot and lower leg.

Since Hockey is so skill-specific and the level that professional players reach is so fine-tuned, any short-term injury is much more devastating to a hockey player because he can quickly lose his skating, stickhandling skills, and aerobic fitness. A long time period may be required to regain these skills after an injury. Depending on the severity of the strain, rehabilitative exercises can be helpful in accelerating your return to full functional range of motion, strength and function. Regaining full off-ice function is a pre-requisite to return to play safely.
