Lymphedema Therapy
Svetlana Tzondova, RPT leads our Lymphedema Therapy team. Ms. Tzondova is a European-trained physical therapist with 25+ years of experience. She is trained in Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) as well as Decongestive Therapy (CDT). All therapists at S.T.A.R.S. are trained in manual lymph drainage (MLD) and decongestive therapy (CDT).

Lymphedema therapy is the swelling of a body part, due to abnormal accumulation of protein rich edema fluid. This condition can occur from deficient or damaged lymphatic system, altering the transport of the lymph fluid.

S.T.A.R.S. employs their own highly effective MLD technique for prevention and treatment of edema, and as a supportive therapy where swelling and infection are concerned. MLD requires time and repetition, and, when properly applied, can be very powerful in its effect. By increasing the volume of lymph flow, and with careful manual techniques, flow can be redirected around obstructed areas, preventing or reducing swelling and restoring healthy tissue condition, flushing out wastes, and preventing incidence of cellulitis. Lymphedema usually affects the arms or legs, but it can also affect the head and neck, genital and trunk regions.

S.T.A.R.S. goal is to educate and teach their patients the skills to manage their lymphedema condition and to improve their overall quality of life.
